A Little information about our Mountain Communites

Teller County is a wonderful place to live! Enjoy fresh mountain air, ever changing weather with lots of sun, friendly people, beautiful views and pristine mountain land! We are geograpically a small county with under 25,000 residents. You can choose to live in one of our mountain communities or you can live in a rural area with or without neighbors. There are many employment opportunities in Teller County but if you choose, it is a pleasant commute to Colorado Springs.
Woodland Park
Located about 18 miles "up the hill" from Colorado Springs, this beautiful and growing mountain town is a bedroom community for about 7,600 residents. Woodland Park is a charming mountain community with an ever expanding array of services. Many of us can now avoid going down the hill to the city with the addition of more shopping, grocery, hospital and other services. Woodland Park is called "The City Above the Clouds" and shines in the splendor of the majestic Pikes Peak with an elevation of 8,465 feet.
Rural mountain living is available north of the city on Hwy 67 all the way to the Douglas County line and includes areas like Turkey Rock, Quinlan Gulch, Painted Rocks and Ridgewood. Pike National Forest surrounds the residential areas. There are some rural properties bordering the city to the south and west. This area offers rolling ranch land or treed acreages. Children in the Woodland Park area attend schools in school district Re2.

Divide
The little town of Divide is approximately 7 miles west of Woodland Park. It is home to some county services, Summit Elementary and is gradually adding some commercial services as well. It is located on the Hwy 24 corridor at the busy interesection of Hwy 24 and Hwy 67. Many of Colorado's outdoor sports and recreation areas are located west of Divide so these outdoor enthusiastes often stop in Divide as they travel to and from their skiing, hunting, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking excursions while others travel south to Cripple Creek, Victor, Gold Camp and Mueller State Park. Pikes Peak stands sentry over Divide as well and many home dwellers enjoy this view from their property.
Rural living is available north, south, east and west of this little mountain town. Most areas require well and septic although there are some with central water. Topography is varies from high alpine to rolling ranchlands so there is something for everyone. Homes vary from small cabins to fine estates; small lots to large acreages.

Florissant
Home of the famous Fossil Beds and Hornbeck Ranch, the town is so small that there is not even a stoplight! Located approximately 15 miles west of Woodland Park. Many homes are identified as being in Florissant but there are actually very few homes in the town of Florissant. Most of the homes and land are rural and can be north and west of town as far as the Park County line and south as far as the Fremont and Park County lines. This is a breathtakingly beautiful area with some ranch land, amazing rock formations, subdivisions hidden in among the trees and hills, and hundreds of acres of BLM and National Forest. Views can include the west side of Pikes Peak, Mt. Pisgah and Mt. Rhyolite , the Continental Divide, Dome Rock and maybe the Sangre de Christos.
The school district boundaries for this area is divided between Woodland Park Re2 and Cripple Creek-Victor Re1. The nearest essential services can be found in Woodland Park although Florissant does offer a small bank branch, feed store, restaurant and a beautiful new library. There is a convenience store/gas station in Florissant and midway between Florissant and Cripple Creek on Teller County 1.
Located in the rural areas are cabins to million dollar homes. Land from 1/2 acre to 240 acre parcels. There are subdivisions with or without covenants, unplatted land, agricultural property and gated communities. Some areas offer flat to gentle rolling topography while others are mountainous. Rock outcroppings abound in the Florissant area. There is an occasional creek, stream or pond on some properties. Wells and septics are required in most areas except for right in the town of Florissant.
Sometimes called the "banana belt" of Teller County, weather tends to be a little milder in the southern Florissant area.

Cripple Creek
The historic town of Cripple Creek is in the southern part of Teller County, located approximately 30 miles from Woodland Park. Half of the fun going to Cripple Creek is the drive to get there. Whether you take Hwy 67 south from Divide or Teller County 1 from Florissant, the scenery is breathtaking. When you drop into town off of Tenderfoot Hill on Hwy 67, the view will leave you breathless! There are so many tourist attractions in this old mining town and Cripple Creek is one of three historic mining towns in Colorado that enjoys casino gambling.
Many of the homes in town are centurions although there has been some construction of newer homes. Rural living surrounds the town as well. There are limited services in town but some essential services can be found. This is the county seat for Teller County so the court house is located here together with the primary county services. Restaurants abound, tourist attractions and many events take place in Cripple Creek. There are several casinos and a favorite among tourists and locals is the melodrama.

Victor
Located south of Cripple Creek at nearly 10,000 ft altitude is the sleepy little mining town of historic Victor. Tourists love this little town as do the interesting folks who choose to live here. Home to many little mom & pop shops, it is a delight to stroll down the streets with no fear of traffic, chatting with the locals and slowing down your pace a bit. Many art bazaars are held here. The CCV gold mine is very active in this mining district and there are several walking paths that lead you to historic mining sites where you can gape in awe at the scenery and learn some history of the area.
The homes in this area are generally turn of the century so if you have a fancy to restore an old Victorian home, this town is for you.

Lake George
Lake George is located on the Hwy 24 corridor 8 miles west of Florissant just over the Park County line. This is a fisherman's paradise and it serves as the gateway to Eleven Mile canyon and resevoir. It is also located at the intersection that leads to Tarryall with fishing, hiking and camping destinations. This is a cute little mountain town with services targeted primarily to hunters, fishermen, campers and hikers. There are some rural homes, cabins and land in every direction, many surrounded by National Forest.

Guffey
Guffey is a small historic town located in Park County right off of Hwy 9 between Hartsel and Canon City. It can be accessed through Teller County by Hwy 24 or through the SW corridor. While there are very few habitable homes right in town, there are many beautiful homes on acreages in the rural area outside of Guffey. Many of these homes are second homes for folks from Colorado Springs and Denver. The town boasts a couple of restaurants and a bar. To the south on Hwy 9 is Canon City and to the north is Hartsel. Eleven Mile Resevoir is just a few miles north and Cripple Creek is about 30 minutes to the east. Some Teller County workers choose to live out in the Guffey area where there is big acreage and loads of privacy.
